CUC Goulburn re-opens in new central location, expanding access for regional students
25 Nov 2024
The Country Universities Centre (CUC) Goulburn is thrilled to announce the re-opening of its doors in a brand-new, centrally located facility on 11th November 2024 by the Hon Kristy McBain MP and CUC Goulburn Chair Bob Kirk. With increased floor space and enhanced amenities, the new centre is ready to welcome a growing number of local students, continuing its mission to support regional access to higher education.
Since first opening in 2018, CUC Goulburn had previously been co-located with TAFE NSW, where demand from students quickly outpaced the space available. With this move to a larger, purpose-built location, CUC Goulburn is now equipped to provide a more suitable environment for students, featuring expanded quiet study spaces, group breakout rooms, high-speed internet, and face-to-face academic and wellbeing support from local staff.
CUC Goulburn Chair, Bob Kirk, shared his enthusiasm for the centre’s growth and its potential impact on the local community.
“We are proud to have expanded our footprint in Goulburn with a space that better meets the needs of our students. Demand for our services had outgrown our previous location, and this new centre gives students a place where they can focus, connect, and thrive in their studies without having to leave the region.”
Chris Ronan, CEO of Country Universities Centre, celebrated the expansion and the opportunities it brings for Goulburn’s students, “CUC Goulburn has been an invaluable resource for students since it first opened in 2018, and with this move to a larger, more central location, it is clear that the CUC model is successful in this community. Our aim is to make higher education accessible for all students in regional Australia, and this new facility is a significant step forward in achieving that vision in Goulburn.”
The re-opening marks an important milestone for CUC Goulburn, which has seen an exponential increase in students since its inception, far exceeding the community’s expectations. The CUC model across NSW, QLD and VIC demonstrates a significant need for access to higher education with over 2,600 students accessing Centres across the CUC Network.
CUC Goulburn, one of the first centres in the CUC network, has supported over 750 students since it first opened in 2018 and in Semester 2, 2024 alone, the centre has supported 231 students.
CUC Goulburn Centre Manager, Isabella Leslie, expressed enthusiasm for the new space and what it represents for the community, “the expanded centre will enable us to support even more students in Goulburn and surrounds. Our team is excited to welcome students to a refreshed and more accessible environment, where they can focus on their studies and connect with peers without needing to leave their community.”
The new facility is now located at 91 Bourke Street Goulburn NSW, and is staffed from 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday. If you would like a tour, please drop by and talk to their friendly staff.
