CUC Western Downs Brings QUT Law Roadshow to Regional Students
30 Jun 2026
Students across the Western Downs have had the opportunity to experience the world of legal studies firsthand, thanks to CUC Western Downs bringing the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Law Faculty’s Regional High School Roadshow to Chinchilla.
The two-day program gave students from Dalby State High School, Chinchilla Christian College and Chinchilla State High School the chance to explore university study and careers in law without travelling to Brisbane.
Program highlights
- A legal research workshop at CUC Western Downs.
- A hands-on moot court experience at the Chinchilla Courthouse.
- Students stepping into the roles of legal advocates.
- A fictional self-defence case inspired by the classic film Home Alone.

The program combined a legal research workshop at CUC Western Downs with a hands-on moot court experience at the Chinchilla Courthouse, where students stepped into the roles of legal advocates and explored the principles of self-defence through a fictional case inspired by the classic film Home Alone. Together, the activities provided students with valuable insight into legal study while building confidence, critical thinking and advocacy skills.
Bringing the Roadshow to the Western Downs ensured local students could participate in an experience that had previously been limited to metropolitan audiences.
It provided a valuable opportunity to explore legal studies firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of university and career pathways.
CUC Western Downs extends its thanks to Katherine Kean, Lecturer and Academic Lead for Student Outreach and Engagement in QUT’s School of Law, and QUT Law Student Ambassador Vinesh, for delivering an engaging and interactive program that inspired students to think critically, ask questions and explore future opportunities in law.
The Roadshow demonstrates what’s possible when universities and regional communities work together. Through partnerships like this, students can engage with real university experiences close to home, helping turn higher education from something that feels distant into something that feels achievable.
