Seven new Regional University Study Hubs join the CUC
03 Feb 2025
The Country Universities Centre (CUC) welcomes today’s announcement by the Australian Government of ten new Regional University Study Hubs (RUSH). Seven of these hubs will join the CUC Network.
The CUC is excited to welcome CUC Eastern Tasmania (St Helens, TAS), CUC Southern Grampians (Hamilton, VIC), CUC Snowy Valleys (Tumut, NSW), CUC Hay (Hay, NSW), CUC Isaac (Clermont and Moranbah, QLD), CUC Hughenden (Hughenden, QLD) and CUC Norfolk Island (Burnt Pine, Norfolk Island) to the CUC Network.
Chris Ronan, CEO of the CUC, commended the Australian Government’s commitment to investing in community-led education.
“The Universities Accord emphasised that more people from regional areas should have access to higher education. The CUC model is a pathway for communities to achieve it.
“When communities drive their own development of a Centre, we see incredible results that open doors to higher education opportunities for more regional Australians.”
“Each Centre is owned and run by a local, skills-based volunteer board that chooses to affiliate with the CUC Network. This grassroots approach, with communities choosing to work together as part of the CUC, has been instrumental in the success of the CUC and the broader Regional University Study Hub Program,” said Mr Ronan.
With this announcement, the CUC Network will grow to 28 Centres, spanning across 40 communities in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and now, Tasmania and Australian Pacific Territories.
The CUC model enables anyone in regional Australia to realise their aspirations and ensure regional communities can grow their own skilled workforce for the future. The CUC supports students from any university or tertiary provider, which enables a wide range of choices in education opportunities locally.
The CUC extends its gratitude to Minister Clare and Assistant Minister Chisholm for their ongoing support of regional communities and their commitment to ensuring equitable access to higher education across Australia.
